Major Duties
Under the direction of the Director of University Communications, the Marketing and Communications Specialist is a member of the university's central marketing and communications team. The incumbent is responsible for promoting the mission, vision, reputation and brand of the university through media, publications, marketing and digital communications.
• Acts as the principal marketing writer and copyeditor responsible for an array of digital and print collateral including emails, web microsites, brochures, flyers, programs, invitations, video scripts, slideshows and more.
• Develops and writes engaging, reputation enhancing, mission aligned stories for a variety of communication vehicles and edits and proofs stories written by staff writers and student interns.
• Works closely with departmental colleagues and campus partners on content development, feedback and approvals and is proactive and adapts to shifting priorities and timelines, and prioritizes work on multiple projects.

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with a Bachelor's degree in marketing/advertising, communications, public relations, journalism, English/literature, or a related field
• Equivalent to three (3) years of full-time professional or technical experience, preferably in social media.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Working knowledge of protocols and institutional etiquette related to communications; applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to written materials and confidentiality. Knowledge of market research and related techniques. Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, practices, principles and techniques related to communications in the public affairs, development, media and/or marketing areas
• Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with the ability to quickly produce clear, concise and creative articles and documents for internal and external publications; experience with AP style required.
• Skilled at organizing and writing material for both print and web-based publications; experience with content management systems and Adobe Creative Suite preferred. Excellent communication skills and the ability to create and maintain positive, productive relationships with story subjects and colleagues.
• Strong story development and writing skills for both long-form and short-form storytelling preferred, as well as advanced editorial skills. Knowledge of effective interview techniques and the ability to define and deliver targeted messages.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
• The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
• Classification / grade: 0800 / Pub Affairs/Comm Spec / 2
• The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3515 - $5600, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3515 - $6358 per month.
• HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.
• REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
