Position Description

This posting is for two positions in the Minor Source Permitting Branch, one in the Minor Source Compliance Branch, and one in the Major Source Compliance Branch in the Bureau of Air Pollution Control. The duties of permitting include reviewing permit applications, communicating with facilities to get additional information, determining potential emissions, and drafting air quality permits. The duties of compliance include reviewing reports and stack testing data from facilities, inspecting facilities and records, communicating with facilities to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and drafting compliance orders to amend permit requirements.

Applicants must have an ABET accredited BS engineering degree (or equivalent as defined by the Nevada Board of Professional Engineers). Applicants are expected to have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FEE) prepared by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. If the selected applicant has not yet passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam at the time of employment, the incumbent will be expected to take and pass the exam within the first year of employment. If the employee fails to pass the FEE exam within a year, they will be considered for release prior to the end of probation.

Classification Description

Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
