General Statement/ Organizational Responsibilities

This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:

Control Systems Engineering Technician ($64,771.20 - $90,646.40 Annually)
Performs a variety of technical engineering tasks in support of the planning, study, design, construction, modification, operation, and maintenance of the organization's various process control systems, including process controllers, process networking, data/report servers, and high-level microcomputer support of software/hardware. Works under the direction of a Senior Control System Engineer.

Staff Control Systems Engineer ($79,560.00 - $115,377.60 Annually)

Performs and occasionally manages engineering activities in the planning, study, design, construction, modification, operation, and maintenance of the organization's various process control systems, including process controllers, process networking, data/report servers, and high-level microcomputer support of software/hardware. Plans and conducts work requiring independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Works under the general direction of the Principal or Senior Control Systems Engineer. May provide functional leadership for the work of other engineers and engineering technicians.

Senior Control Systems Engineer ($89,107.20 - $129,188.80 Annually)
Manages and performs engineering activities in the planning, study, design, construction, modification, operation, and maintenance of Metro's various process control systems, including process controllers, process networking, data/report servers, and high-level microcomputer support of software/hardware. Plans and conducts work requiring independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Independently performs assignments with information as to the general results expected received from Principal Control Systems Engineer or Senior Electrical I&C Engineering Manager. May provide functional leadership for the work of other engineers and engineering technicians.

Associate's degree in engineering or computer science. Working knowledge of real-time process control automation, relational database design, and data analysis tools. Knowledge of process control theory, data communications, and industrial/electrical/mechanical systems. Excellent technical, mathematical, and analytical skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, consultants, contractors and the public.

Working knowledge of real-time process control automation, relational database design, and data analysis tools. Knowledge of process control theory, data communications, and industrial/electrical/mechanical systems. Excellent technical, mathematical, and analytical skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, consultants, contractors and the public.

Senior Control Systems Engineer
Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science plus four years of experience in the operation and programming of real-time industrial control systems. Working knowledge of real-time process control automation, relational database design, and data analysis tools. Knowledge of process control theory, data communications, and industrial/electrical/mechanical systems. Excellent technical, mathematical, and analytical skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, consultants, contractors and the public.

Equivalency

Equivalency equals two years of directly related professional experience for every year of education not completed. The stated experience requirement is in addition to any experience used to meet the education equivalency.

Desired Qualifications

Extensive experience and/or education in engineering related ABB Ability System 800xA and Allen-Bradley/Rockwell hardware and software. Working knowledge of MS virtualization and Windows Server Operating Systems, ODBC, SQL, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and web-based applications. Knowledge of wastewater technology.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); outdoor weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock less than 1/3 of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually very quiet.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit more than 2/3 of the time. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
