The San Bernardino County Fire District , Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM), has a unique need for a Household Hazardous Waste Event Coordinator . The Coordinator will take responsibility for planning, developing, coordinating, and promoting events and programs for the Household Hazardous Waste Section . Communication and organizational skills, and attention to detail are required, as the Coordinator is responsible for planning events; coordinating locations, personnel, vehicles, and other equipment; training volunteers; and notifying and educating the community. Events are held to promote knowledge and compliance with such programs as household hazardous waste, e-waste, and oil filter recycling. Events are held on weekends and some holidays, and take place in various communities throughout the County. Bilingual is desired to continue expanding the program with translating documents, social media posts, and advertising.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department Household Hazardous Waste Section is committed to providing safe and efficient hazardous waste management services. The ultimate objective is to protect health, natural resources and the environment. Staff is devoted to the provision of fast and friendly service to County residents and small businesses.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Travel: Travel throughout the County is required to perform duties in the community. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be provided at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Work Availability: Work hours may vary, as events are routinely scheduled on weekends and holidays, and may run into the evening hours.
Background: A successful background check is required prior to assignment.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: One (1) year (full-time equivalent) of paid work experience with the primary responsibility for coordinating and planning governmental/city/community events, public information programs, or large charity events with public participation, with the goal of promoting organizational activities. Responsibilities must include securing venues, collaborating with other organizations for the event, designing promotional items and advertising, coordinating with fellow representatives to staff the event, and tracking expenditures.

Desired Qualifications

The successful candidate will have experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook), Adobe, all Social Media Platforms, Photoshop software and geo-fencing. This candidate will be outgoing, with strong interpersonal skills and be experienced in negotiating, leading, planning, and problem-solving. Knowledge of and experience with Household Hazardous Waste management, and possession of a degree related to Environmental Sciences or Marketing are highly desired.
