About Our Job

This is a part-time position which will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. Part-time positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

Our staffing needs vary season to season, with spring-fall being the busiest time of the year. We are only able to keep a few staff on through the winter season and are unable to guarantee winter work to all staff.

The Outdoor Recreation Team (ODR) is seekingleads and instructors for this summer's skateboard program thatteaches basic skateboarding skills, riding skills, and safety. The program is for Denver youth, encouraging healthy physical activity and promoting growth in various life and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement activities and lessons for program participants while ensuring a fun, safe learning environment
  • Facilitate and execute on-site skateboard program activities and lesson plans
  • Assist the site lead with completing on-site reporting and activity planning
  • Develop rapport with youth, parents, and recreation center staff
  • Deliver high-level customer service to all Outdoor Recreation participants
  • Teach the participant group necessary technical skills for successful, safe skateboard riding
  • Monitor weather and make alternative plans in the event of severe or inclement weather
  • Maintain a positive group atmosphere in which all participants are welcomed, included, and supported
  • Identify and minimize environmental risks; follow policies and procedures as set forth by ODR
  • Respond to emergencies and provide patient care; be prepared to summon help and initiate rescue
  • Drive department vehicles including trucks with trailer in tow and 15-passenger mini-buses with participants


The starting rate for this position is $16.00/hour.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have reliable transportation to instruct activities throughout our extensive program service area and will be able to participate in our activity-specific in-house trainings provided throughout the season. In addition, our ideal candidate will have some experience in skateboard programming.

Our ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience in skateboarding
  • Experience instructing skateboarding
  • Open availability during the summer programming months
  • Experience working with youth and adults in a recreation setting
  • Ability to attend Outdoor Recreation’s in-house trainings
  • Ability to attend Defensive Driving and Coaching the Van Driver training


One or more of the following certifications (or a related outdoor certification) is preferred, but not required:
  • Wilderness First Aid Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience Requirement: One (1) year of experience in assisting in the operation and instruction of organized recreation activities
  • Education and Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
  • License/Certification Requirement: Requires certification in CPR and First Aid within 6 months of date of hire
    By position, requires a valid driver’s license at the time of application
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of continued employment
