Major Duties
Under general supervision of the Dean and the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the Graduation and Retention Advising Specialist is responsible for improving retention, reducing time to degree, and resolving issues impeding graduation for freshman and transfer cohorts within the college using a wide variety of campus data platforms and reports. The incumbent works collaboratively with the Office of Student Success staff, the CECS Student Services Center/EOP Satellite staff, department-based staff and faculty advisors, department chairs, and the Office of Undergraduate Degree Services to achieve university graduation and retention goals.
• Targets first-time freshmen and first-time transfer college-based cohorts to facilitate two- and four-year graduation when possible.
• Provides academic advisement and information on university policies, procedures, resources, and graduation requirements to assist students with the resolution of graduation or enrollment obstacles.
• Uses a preventative approach in solving problems impacting retention and graduation and provides multiple solutions when appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field.
• Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
• A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• Upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution, where such are job related, is preferred.
• One year in academic advisement.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services and thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior, individual counseling techniques. Thorough knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned.
• Ability to: analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
• Ability to: interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
• Must have demonstrated experience working with students in multi-cultural/multi-ethnic populations; students that are historically under-represented, under prepared, low income and first-generation college students.
• Experience in assessing academic data and conducting analyses. Experience in finding problems and recommending solutions to problems related to retention and graduation. Solid knowledge of SOLAR/EAB/Table programs.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
• The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
• Classification / grade: 3084 / SSP III
• The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4691 - $5000, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4691 - $6683 per month.
• HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.
• REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
