The Child Development Department resides in the College of Health, Human Services and Nursing. We have over 900 undergraduate majors from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Our students seek careers working with child and families from birth through adolescence. We are integrated into our local community through our fieldwork courses and strive to emphasize a sense of social responsibility throughout our curriculum.
The Child Development program focuses on the study of individual development from conception through adolescence within diverse contexts. Students are provided with fundamental knowledge of theoretical and methodological concepts, developmental processes, and current issues in the field. We believe that child development professionals play an important role in society with a significant impact on children and families. To ensure that our students graduate as well-prepared professionals, our program rests on three fundamental elements: knowledge, skills, and integrity.

We are seeking dynamic, positive, and contributive colleagues with a passion for teaching and a commitment to student success. The ideal candidate will have two or more years of teaching experience and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with learners of diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Candidates should possess excellent communication and writing skills, initiative, and resourcefulness.
The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled based on student enrollment and authorized funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. Qualifications Required Qualifications
- Teaching undergraduates; mentoring undergraduate research and scholarship.
- Teach assigned upper division courses in the department's curriculum and hold weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
- A Master's degree in developmental psychology or closely related field relevant to the curriculum.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching.
- Applicants must have experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
Employment Requirement - Background Check
- A Ph.D. or extensive professional experience is required for teaching upper-division core courses (300- or 400-level).
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. Mandated Reporter per CANRA
