The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $3,532.00/month to $4,586.00/month.

About the Position

The Accounting Technician III operates directly under the supervision of the Dir, Student Financial Services & Systems. Responsible for a wide variety of duties requiring close attention to detail and customer service, responsible for recording and reporting the financial transactions in concert with the broader mission of the university. Operates independently on a wide variety of duties requiring judgment, initiative, independence and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities

Major responsibility: Review and process student third party invoices - Open U, ALP
  • Receive, review and process all authorizations for billing student sponsors for quarterly registration and parking fees
  • Set up third party billing on student accounts
  • Review students' accounts for accuracy when tuition calculation is run and prior to statement mailing
  • Process all invoices to sponsor's for student fees
  • Review discrepancies and make adjustments to students' accounts as needed

Major Responsibility: AR/BI non-student third party payment
  • All non-student related invoice payments is delivered to Accounts Receivable to enter to Cashnet system
  • Run the query "EB_AR_CASHNET_PAYMENTS" daily to post invoice payment
  • Post invoice payments to AR/BI accounts receivable module

Major Responsibility: Manage Wells Fargo data maintenance daily
  • Download wells Fargo daily statement each morning from State, Foundation, and Ed Foundation accounts
  • Reconcile between daily bank credit and Cashnet deposits by using the daily Wells Fargo statement
  • Determine the appropriate item codes on incoming debits and credits
  • If the payment is for a student, locate the student NETID from PeopleSoft system
  • Submit daily ACH_DEP, wire transfer, international fund transfer, and credit card revenue Excel worksheet to Cashiers Office to post all incoming debits and credits
  • Process and update return checks or ACH deposits
  • Prepare partial bank reconciliation daily
  • Process student direct deposit rejects


Major Responsibility: Tax Offset - Franchise Tax Board Program
  • The California State Franchise Tax board (FTB) intercepts the tax refund monies on behalf of CSUEB from our debtors
  • The intercept list and individual notification letters are sent out approximately six to eight weeks before the actual cash/check is received from FTB at CSUEB
  • The receipt of these funds was formerly completed on a cash basis of accounting. It has been determined that the accounting for these funds should be on an accrual basis.
  • Once Student Financial Services receives the letters from FTB, the Technician determines what category to post
  • There are FOUR categories: PeopleSoft Campus Solution Student Accounts, Library, Perkins, and AR/BI Non-Student Debt


Major Responsibility: Provide customer service for students and campus community
  • Answer questions and provide service to all customers appearing at cashiers counter.
  • Answer questions and provide service via the telephone
  • Direct customer to appropriate department or individual if service is needed elsewhere.
  • Provide correspondence for fee verification for students

Major Responsibility: Other duties as assigned
  • Assist the Director of Student Financial Services & Systems with similar duties as needed
  • Act as a Cashiers staff as needed


Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

Comprehensive knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices; and basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Abilities:

In addition to the Accounting Technician II abilities, must be able to interpret and apply a wide variety of written rules and regulations; maintain accounting records for funds, programs, or activities involving multiple transactions; compile, verify, and reconcile financial data; use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid; investigate and resolve errors and discrepancies; and read and interpret computer-generated reports.

Experience:

Equivalent to four years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities.

Education:

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures
