Departmental Mission Statement: The mission of the Massachusetts Trial Court Security Department is to provide safety and security for all those who work in or come to our courthouses. The Security Department seeks to ensure a safe and secure environment in which to conduct court business while maintaining professionalism, order, and decorum in the courts. Using a comprehensive training regimen, coupled with the implementation of state-of-the-art security system technologies, the department strives to ensure public safety, access to justice, and the highest customer service in the courts of Commonwealth. Position Summary:Working within the Office of Court Management's Security Department on a periodic, per diem basis, a Security Staffing Specialist is responsible for conducting applicant interviews and assessing candidates for employment with the Trial Court as court officers or associate court officers. Total annual hours of actual employment shall not exceed 960 hours. A Security Staffing Specialist may represent the Trial Court Security Department at job fairs and other recruitment events in collaboration with the Trial Court Human Resources Department. A Staffing Specialist may also conduct pre-employment background investigations of applicants for positions within the Security Department. The Security Staffing Specialist works in partnership with the Security management team, Human Resources, and Trial Court leadership, and may engage with law enforcement agencies and other security, governmental, and non-governmental organizations to perform these duties. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives general direction from the Director of Security and specific guidance and oversight from the Security Department's Deputy Director of Administration in performing duties in accordance with established guidelines.

Supervision Received:

Duties: Acts as panel member to conduct applicant interviews and assess candidates for employment as a court officer or associate court officer;

Participates in the interview of applicants for other Security Department positions if assigned by the Director of Security;

Represents the Trial Court Security Department at job fairs and communicates with the public to attract a qualified, diverse Security workforce to the Trial Court;

Conducts pre-employment background investigations;

Successfully completes training and maintains competency in Trial Court policies and procedures related to the recruitment, interview and assessment of job candidates;

Successfully completes training and maintains competency in Trial Court policies and procedures related to Security Department pre-employment background investigations; and

Performs other related duties as required.

Job Competencies:

Minimum Requirements: These are the minimum requirements necessary to apply for the periodic role of Per Diem Security Staffing Specialist:

A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in criminal justice, public policy, or other related field;

Retired, or otherwise separated, in good standing with 8 years or more of experience as a senior official in a court security, law enforcement, or a corrections organization;

Fact finding and/or law enforcement investigative experience;

Experience in public safety recruitment and hiring preferred;

Possesses or develops expertise with Trial Court policy and procedures for conducting pre-employment background investigations;

Familiar with the public employer policies and procedures relative to workforce recruitment and hiring that exist in the Trial Court;

Ability to summarize and present composite information both written and verbally;

Ability to prepare investigative reports;

Ability to professionally and respectfully project the face of the Trial Court Security Department through the interview process;

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally with persons at all levels to maintain effective working relationships;

Ability to establish work priorities;

Ability to work independently and as part of a team; and

Ability to travel throughout the Commonwealth.
