Under supervision, Network Systems Specialists install, configure, monitor and maintain the City's data networking infrastructure; analyze and modify overall network operations to ensure the highest level of uptime, integrity and security.

Vacancies in Information Services Department are for a variety of assignments. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. UNIT 3 Classification - The Fresno City Employees Association, Inc. (FCEA)

3% salary increase, effective June 19, 2023

RETIREMENT: Fresno City Retirement System, one of the best funded public systems in the state. Reciprocity with other public California systems. City of Fresno does not participate in Social Security. Vested in Retirement benefits after 5 years of service.

The Requirements

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination and do not assure placement on the eligible list.

Three (3) years of experience gained as a Computer Systems Specialist with the City of Fresno; OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, computer engineering or a related field and three (3) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and design of networking equipment, network communications, servers, computer data storage and back-up systems. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

If qualifying with a degree or accredited college or university credits, please attach a copy of the degree or transcripts. Applications lacking this documentation will be rejected.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License required at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.

The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview, an extensive pre-employment background and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

Selection Process

The examination process may consist of the following:

Written Examination : 100%: A job-related written examination will be administered which may test a candidate's knowledge of implementing, troubleshooting and designing data networks and telecommunications systems, ability to analyze functional requirements and specifications for computer hardware, communication effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and representatives of user departments.

Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Written Examination to qualify for placement on the eligible list.

Veteran Preference Regulations

Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested. Qualified veterans who pass the examination will have five (5) points added to their final score.
