Position Summary

The Research and Assessment Coordinator is a member of the Office of Housing Administration team. In conjunction with the Director, Associate Directors, other managers, staff, and students, this position assists in carrying out the mission, vision, and values, of the Office of Housing Administration and is responsible for supporting and contributing to an atmosphere that facilitates respect, inclusivity, collaboration, and growth.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Marketing, Communications Outreach, and Assessment, the Research and Assessment Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the mission of the Office of Housing Administration through the development of identifying, employing and analyzing various data sources to ensure leadership is able to back data-based decisions in the operation of the department. This will include, but not limited to, accessing primary, secondary, and tertiary data sources such as survey design, campus databases, academic research, state and national usage analytics, etc.

The incumbent will provide technical and analytical support services to OHA as it relates to student housing research. This will include the coordination and implementation of a year-round assessment calendar, tracking of ongoing assessment tools, and day-to-day management of assessment within the housing enterprise.

Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining all data within the software systems for monthly and yearly analysis. The Research and Assessment Coordinator will provide several presentations annually to a variety of departmental and campus partners.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Available shift: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

The individual hired into this role will work on-campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Experience: Two years of progressively responsible experience in technical research or statistical work in the collection. compilation, and analysis of data. Graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration or engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. Additional experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledges and abilities delineated above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Specialized Skills
  • Proficiency with statistical software such as R, SPSS, SAS.
  • Experience with database tools such as SQL or Access and reporting/visualization software such as Tableau.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in math, statistics, marketing, or related field.
  • Data mining, predictive modeling and analytics experience.
  • Knowledge of visualization software and/or reporting-dashboard technology.
  • Experience with educational data, student information data specifically.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,167 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,721 - $6,733 per month.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work.
