The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline has announced the immediate search for an Associate General Counsel. This is a new position recently approved during the 81st Legislative Session and is located in Carson City/Reno. This is a combination in-person/telework position. The successful candidate for this position should be willing to assume his or her duties in December 2021/January 2022.

Position Description

The position serves at the pleasure of the General Counsel and Executive Director of the Commission on Judicial Discipline ("Commission") and Executive Director of the Standing Committee on Judicial Ethics ("Standing Committee") ("GCED"). The position is a senior non-classified position with the State of Nevada. The compensation schedule is modeled after the Classified Employee Compensation Schedule effective 07/12/2021. The range for the employee/employer-paid retirement option is $79,719.84 to $120,582.00, and the employer-paid retirement option is $69,405.12 to $104,963.76. The actual pay rate will be established by the GCED within the range allowable, depending upon the depth of experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. Applicable State of Nevada benefits and retirement plans are offered.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires membership in good standing in the State Bar of Nevada; at least five (5) years of practice within the State of Nevada; and strong skills in analyzing citizen complaints and directing and overseeing investigations. The successful candidate should have a serious interest in judicial ethics; be willing to deal with difficult, complex situations involving the conduct of judicial officers; and, must have maintained an exemplary conduct record as an attorney. The position requires the utilization and management of outside counsel and investigative personnel in an efficient, cost-effective manner. In addition, this position requires strong verbal, social and clear writing skills; effective evaluation and communication skills; and the ability to work independently or as a team member. It is preferred, but not required, that the person selected will have both public and private practice experience in litigation, as well familiarity with state agencies. Experience with providing counsel to a board or commission is also helpful. All candidates are required to provide three professional letters of reference sent directly to the Commission from the references. Candidates may also need to submit signed releases to the Commission at a later date to be utilized for criminal background and Nevada State Bar disciplinary inquiries.
