Job Description


The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill two (2) regular, full-time vacancies in the class of either Accounting Technician or Senior Accounting Technician at the Department of Financial Services. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list that will be utilized to fill these current vacancies as well as future Accounting Technician and Senior Accounting Technician vacancies occurring countywide. The salary range for each classification level is as follows:
Accounting Technician: $48,152 - $58,529 Annually
Senior Accounting Technician: $52,974 - $64,391 Annually
The Positions
Accounting and Financial Reporting Division The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of account payable processes, great time management skills, places quality customer service as a high priority, and works well in a team environment.

Property Tax Division
The Property Tax Accounting Unit of the Department of Finance is looking to fill one position. The candidate selected for this position will p articipates in the administration and operations of property tax accounting ; including the daily operations with processing of property taxes in accordance with the California Revenue and Taxation Code ; to monitor, reconcile and verify property tax accounts.

The ideal candidate must have great customer service skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to handle and manage multiple priorities while maintaining a positive collaborative environment . Previous experience in accounting and various computer systems desired.

(Position Levels)
Accounting Technician: Under general supervision, to perform difficult and moderately technical para-professional accounting, finance, and bookkeeping duties required in the maintenance of fiscal and statistical records; to prepare and assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial statements, documents, analyses and accounting reports; to review, verify, reconcile, and record financial transactions which require considerable interpretative ability and technical judgement; to perform other related duties as required.
Senior Accounting Technician: Under general supervision, to perform highly technical and complex para-professional and beginning professional level accounting and bookkeeping functions of grants, contracts, purchase orders and other financial records related to the monitoring, reconciliation, verification, analysis, and approval of financial expenditures.

Employment Standards

Accounting Technician
Any combination of experience and education, which provides the required knowledge and skills, is acceptable. A typical way to gaining the knowledge and skills is outlined below:

Four (4) years of experience maintaining and reviewing accounting and financial records, preparing and processing accounting documents, or the maintenance of a fiscal record keeping system; AND completion of two years (60 semester units) of college or technical school training with course work preferably in business, bookkeeping, accounting or financial records. Two (2) years of qualifying experience may be substituted for the college education on a year for year basis.

Senior Accounting Technician
Any combination of experience and education, which provides the required knowledge and skills, is acceptable. A typical way to gaining the knowledge and skills is outlined below:

Experience: Two years of experience as an Accounting Technician in Yolo County; or four years of highly responsible accounting or financial support para-professional experience which involved the monitoring, reconciliation, verification, analysis, and approval of financial expenditures.
Education: Some college or technical school level training in business, bookkeeping, accounting or financial records is desirable. College education, which preferably includes some coursework in the listed areas, can be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Some positions in this classification may require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

Verification of Education
Acceptable forms of educational documentation are official or unofficial transcripts that list the student's name, institution name, field of study and date the degree was awarded.

For recent graduates who have not received proof of their degree yet, a letter from the registrar's office stating that all requirements for graduation have been met and listing the field of study will be sufficient proof of graduation.
Please do not send originals; copies of the required documents are acceptable. Any submitted documents will not be returned.
All foreign transcripts or diplomas must be in English. If the institution does not provide these documents in English, the applicant will need to provide a translation which has been done by a professional agency. The County of Yolo will accept education as equivalent to U.S. accreditation from Institutions that are listed as members of the International Association of Universities. Applicants who possess a degree or completed coursework that is not from an accredited college or university, must submit one of the following:

1. A written statement from a U.S accredited university or college that states that the applicant is qualified for entrance to a program of graduate studies for which a degree in a related field is required.
2. An evaluation of the applicant's degree and coursework equivalency by a private organization that provides foreign credential evaluation services. The evaluation must include a comparison of comparable U.S. courses for content, credit and grade.

Note: Foreign language documents must include a precise word-for-word English translation of all foreign language documents. It is the responsibility of each applicant to prove to the satisfaction of the County that the applicant meets the specific requirements listed on the job announcement for each specific examination. The following is a list of private organizations that provide foreign credential evaluation services. Fees range from $50 to $400 per document; processing times vary from 5-20 business days.
