Salary: $31,065.01 - $47,443.76 Annually USD
The purpose of this position is to provide leadership, knowledge and training to the City's public works work group. This is accomplished by filling in upon the absence of a supervisor; distributing the work load among work groups; coordinating and assigning reading routes and additional assignments; ensuring accurate and timely completion of daily special projects; providing guidance, training and assistance to work groups and assisting in resequencing routes as needed. Other duties include billing for water accounts; reviewing lists of accounts and correcting the errors and interacting with other City employees and the general public.
Essential Job Functions
Supervises personnel by distributing the work activity among work groups; coordinating and assigning reading routes and additional assignments; ensuring accurate and timely completion of daily special projects and providing guidance, training and assistance to work groups. Maintains exception lists by running lists; distributing re-reads; composing special bills; completing any cancel or re-bills as needed; correcting problem accounts and making billing corrections if necessary before bill submittal. Acts as a team leader by ensuring that all daily tasks are completed; distributing the work load evenly; assisting with employee relations; dealing with upset customers; providing training and assisting with and performing work flow. Assist fellow employees by re-renting meters and checking for leaks; turning on and terminating services at customers' request; terminating services for non payment deposits; collecting delinquent accounts and terminating accounts for delinquent bills.
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training. Over two years up to and including four years of re-renting meters and checking for leaks; turning on and terminating services at customers' request & leading crews experience. Valid Texas Class C Driver's License Intermediate - Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study. Basic - Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study. Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study. Receives general direction: The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. The employee may choose the appropriate procedure or policy. Performance is reviewed periodically. Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees. Work involves choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures. Professional judgment is required to apply the proper course of action.
