About the University:

California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. About the Position:

This is a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be the lead instructor for Business Through Writing and Business Discourse for the 21st Century Professional. In addition to these courses, this individual will be expected to conduct assessment, develop business communication curricula, and to teach other appropriate courses at the undergraduate level.

The successful candidate will also be expected to obtain external funding to conduct and publish research in their area of expertise, as well as to participate in service activities through school and university committees.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

Applicants must have a Doctoral degree in Business or Organizational Communication; Professional and Technical Writing; Rhetoric, Writing, and Scientific and Technical Communication, or some closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered but must have completed the degree before August 17, 2022.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in the study and teaching of business communication
  • Documented teaching and research expertise in business communication
  • University-level teaching experience with evidence of high-quality teaching, knowledge of high impact teaching methods and assessment
  • Ability and desire to contribute to a collegial work environment
  • Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching undergraduate business communication courses
  • Experience with curriculum design
  • Desire to work with students who may need support with academic or college preparedness skills. (CSUCI serves a diverse population of over 7,000 students, including 60% first-generation college students and 45% Pell Grant students)
  • On-going scholarly work in business communication
  • Experience or interest in high-impact teaching practices (e.g., service learning, student research)
  • Prior industry/professional experience in areas related to business communication


Responsibilities:

  • Lead instructor for Introduction to Business Through Writing and Business Discourse for the 21st Century Professional
  • Conduct assessments, and develop and enrich undergraduate business communication curricula
  • Opportunity to teach MBA and interdisciplinary master's degree classes
  • Conduct and publish research in your discipline
  • Contribute to program and university planning and governance through service on program and university committees
