DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Custodial Services team throughout the Houston Airport System serves a wide scope of internal and external customers and tenants including, but not limited to enhance the customer experience and meet airport standards by cleaning and maintaining terminal facilities, restrooms, offices, and buildings. The mission of the team is to WOW passengers by executing a "can do" attitude and respond quickly to meet and exceed their expectations by maintaining facilities that are worthy of Skytrax 5-star ratings in cleanliness, appearance and function. The team is expected to interface with airport customers using the core values of the organization (Integrity, Courtesy and, Respect).

The purpose of the Semi-Skilled Laborer position is clean and maintain terminal facilities, restrooms and buildings to enhance the customer experience and meet "opening day fresh" standards. This position provides basic maintenance and repair to structures, facilities and equipment to ensure a safe and clean environment. Builds long term relationships with airlines, tenants and other customers based on trust and commitment by proactively responding to customer concerns. May operate vehicles to and from work locations. Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.

The Semi-Skilled Laborer duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Performs cleaning and maintaining multi-unit and single restrooms; hard surface floors and carpets; high dusting and window cleaning; and, emergency response biohazard cleaning services
  • Operates hand tool equipment when needed to perform a variety of heavy cleaning task including scrubbing floors, polishing floors, large area vacuuming, stripping floor finish, waxing floors and sealing floors
  • Monitors inventory control
  • Performs basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities and equipment, i.e. housekeeping activities
  • Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires extensive, near-continuous physical exertion such as repeated lifting of very heavy objects (more than 80 pounds), deep bending, climbing steps and/or assuming awkward positions. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements. This job requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time on a hard-surfaced floor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of related experience are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

PREFERENCES

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

Preference will be given to applicants with hard floor care maintenance experience or custodial experience. Bilingual/multilingual is a plus. A certification toward the related experience of this position is a plus.
