Position: Assistant Professor of Music-Vocal (Soprano/Mezzo preferred)
Starting Date: August 2022
1) An earned doctorate in vocal performance or closely-related area from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/18/2022).
2) Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
3) Demonstrated record of experience performing opera/oratorio, art song, and choral singing.
1) Demonstrated record of professional experience in studio/session work and/or musical theater.
2) Evidence of ability to perform and interpret music that reflects diverse musical traditions or utilizes non-traditional techniques.
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
The successful candidate will be an exceptional teacher and artist with training in classical vocal performance and pedagogy, although professional experience in areas beyond traditional classical repertoire is desirable. Primary responsibilities will include teaching applied voice to students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, vocal pedagogy, song literature, and foreign language diction, with additional courses contingent upon candidate's expertise, interests, and department needs. They will actively work to recruit students to the department and help grow the performance area. They will be expected to serve on performance juries and advise master's thesis and undergraduate senior projects, as well as undergraduate and graduate recitals. The candidate will collaborate closely with the choral director and other faculty to support students performing in a variety of ensembles, venues, and types of performances; collaborate with other faculty as performing and/or composing musicians; and actively participate in the department's vision to serve the community through workshops and outreach.

Salary: Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Music offers both liberal arts and professional degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, Master of Music, and the Master of Arts degree in Music. Undergraduate students pursuing degrees in other fields may also declare music as a minor. Students may choose from an array of music courses to enrich their general education and cultural life experiences.
