FINANCIAL AID ADVISOR
Student Services Professional II
Center for Student Financial Aid
Salary Range: $4,304 - $6,120/Monthly
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; some evenings and weekend hours, overnight stays if assigned to an off campus conference/workshop; exempt classification. Temporary appointment expires on or before one year from date of hire; may be extended; may become permanent.
Essential Functions: Under the general the general direction of the Associate Director, the incumbent provides counseling and advisement to students regarding all aspects of student financial aid programs and processes. Counseling takes place both on and off-campus locations, during normal weekdays, evenings, and weekends. The incumbent manages applicant caseload, applies federal, state, CSU Chancellor's Office Executive Orders, institutional policies and regulations to ensure compliance in all functions of the awarding financial aid; processes files and reports within the caseload; responsible for the administration of designated Financial Aid related programs: TEACH Grant,: Athletics; Cal Grant; Educational Opportunity Program, (EOP); Student Loan; Study Abroad, etc.; acts as a liaison with on and off-campus departments and/or agencies; maintains updated knowledge of responsible programs and in turn, updates office staff and provides information to be used in making appropriate recommendations for implementation and compliance; and will participate in professional development activities, attend meetings, university activities and training.
Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or job related field. Two years of full-time professional experience in Financial Aid, one of the student services program areas, or in a related field. A Master's degree in a job related field may substitute for one year of professional experience. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities required, may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. The incumbent must have knowledge of federal and state Financial Aid policies and regulations; and sensitivity to students from diverse backgrounds. The incumbent must possess literacy in using personal computers and various supporting software programs; and strong counseling skills. The incumbent must have the ability to read, interpret and apply complex rules and regulations correctly and accurately; recognize, analyze and resolve complex eligibility cases; think independently; make professional judgments; use California State University, Los Angeles integrated computer system; multi-task effectively in high paced environment on a daily basis, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; and have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the California State University. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current California State University employees who may apply for the position.
Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of CSU and California State University, Los Angeles policies and procedures.
