Under supervision of the Director of Outreach Services, the Upward Bound Math and Science Outreach Advisor is responsible for providing consistent, accurate, and holistic academic advising, recruitment and outreach services to current and prospective program students and project participants, ensuring program needs are met based on partnership and grant agreements. The incumbent interviews and advises 9th- 12th grade program students regarding information, procedures, and academic requirements of a specific program or major and assists students in exploring careers, evaluating academic abilities, and setting goals and is expected to provide academic advising that facilitates student success, persistence and degree completion in a timely manner.
This position requires equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job-related education may be substituted for the required experience. Demonstrated success in overcoming obstacles similar to that of the target population preferred. Experience working with a diverse student population, including those from low income, first generation backgrounds highly preferred. Working knowledge of "A-G" course requirements preferred. Proficiency with computers, Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) required. Knowledge of Student Access and PeopleSoft preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experie nce and will not exceed $3,948 a month. This is a full time, non-exempt position. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holiday s are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
