Position Summary

Enrollment Services is comprised of Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions, Office of Evaluations, Office of the Registrar, Prospective Student Services, Class Schedule, and Communications. Enrollment Services implements SDSU enrollment management policies and provides services to students from their initial point of interest in SDSU to their graduation.

The functions of the Office of Evaluations are to provide service to the students through determination of eligibility for admission to the University, evaluation of academic records to determine the status of completion of degree requirements, advising on the academic record, supporting campus advisors on advising tools and degree requirements, and liaison with other departments of the University and other educational institutions.

The employing unit has two managers, two leads, one analyst, eighteen evaluator/advisors in various classifications ranging from Student Services Professional IA to Student Services Professional IV and two administrative support staff.

Under general direction of the Associate Director of Evaluations, the primary responsibilities of the Evaluator/Academic Advisor trainee position are to learn Title V, CSU and SDSU policies and procedures, understand admission, evaluation and graduation processes and apply this knowledge toward the performance of the primary responsibilities of an Academic Evaluator/Advisor in the Office of Evaluations.

The person holding this position will be classified as a Student Services Professional 1B for a period of twelve months, during which time they will undergo an internal training program with the expectation that at the conclusion of the twelve-month training program, they will independently perform the following responsibilities: determination of transfer admission eligibility, evaluate records towards bachelor degree requirements including articulation, determination of transferability and exam credit awards, and deliver academic advice on readmission to the university and the completion of graduation requirements for those pursuing a bachelor's degree. Upon successful completion of the training program, the Evaluator/Academic Advisor Trainee will be eligible for classification as a Student Services Professional II.

This is a full time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before September 19, 2022, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job related education may be substituted for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • One year experience in interpreting and explaining academic policies governing public or private university admissions.
  • One year experience working in a college or university's admissions, advising, evaluations, registrar or other student service-related office.
  • Knowledge of certification policies of the CSU and California community college systems.

Specialized Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,796 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,796 - $5,369 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy and the Academic Professionals of California Union MOU, the individual hired into this position may voluntarily provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19. Alternatively, those who choose not to provide proof of vaccination will be considered unvaccinated and required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program. Proof of vaccination or COVID test results will be submitted through the university's secure online health portal. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine.
