Under general direction of the Director, the Accessibility Advisor performs complex Student Services professional work characterized by independent student advisement and guidance in individual and group settings. Responsibilities include consultation and evaluation of student accommodation requests, assisting students with accommodations, and facilitating disclosure to faculty/staff. The incumbent will use a high degree of judgment to assess student learning disabilities and provide services that enhance academic performance, such as design strategies and programs to address problems of adjustment, including social development, behavioral and academic issues. The Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) works with staff, faculty, students, administrators, and community members to ensure that all aspects of campus life are universally accessible. ARC promotes and facilitates awareness and access through accommodations, training, and partnerships.

Required Education and/or Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
Three years of full-time professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
• A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Additional specialized experience which demonstrates the applicant has successfully applied the knowledge and abilities of a Student Services professional may also be substituted for required education on a year-for year basis.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
• Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling.
• Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2009, Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended in 1998, FERPA, and other relevant state and federal laws and codes.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret medical and psycho-educational documentation in order to determine eligibility for disability accommodation.
• General knowledge, acquired through a combination of education or experience, of the principles, practices, and procedures related to disability services delivery in institutions of higher education.
• Experience providing independent case management.
• Knowledge of emerging educational and computer technology and applications in the higher education environment sufficient to authorize the use of technology suitable for a variety of disabilities.
• Fluent written and verbal multi-lingual/bilingual skills.
• Experience with ASL.

Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This is a typical office with standard office equipment, and requires the regular use of computers and the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, requires travel across campus to other offices or buildings, on and off campus on even and uneven surfaces.
Typical office environment operating standard office equipment. Position involves frequent to constant interaction with students, parents, faculty and staff to perform student advising and related support functions. Some travel between campus offices and attendance at weekend campus events, as well as commencement is required.
