Full-time position available with KC Water Safety Division located at 7300 Hawthorne Road.
Salary Range: $18.24-$29.44/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

The Safety Officer is a moderately complex technical position, responsible for planning and administering the Safety Education and Accident Prevention programs. Work includes the inspection of department treatment plants, facilities, equipment and work procedures for compliance to departmental policies, state and federal regulations. Conducts daily safety and health inspections. Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk. Conducts mishap investigations and completes required reports. Closely works with supervisors and managers to maintain cooperation toward the principal objective of elimination unsafe working conditions and practices. Investigates accidents, injuries, property damage and potentially hazardous conditions. Analyzes data and formulates a plan and makes recommendations to prevent similar occurrences. Develops, plans, and implements training for employees in work site safety. Participates and provides leadership on safety committees to resolve safety issues and promote a positive and preventative work environment. Assists in and prepares safety data and reports.
Safety Officer: REQUIRES high school graduation; and 6 years experience in occupational safety and health work; OR an accredited associate's degree in business or technical areas and 4 years progressively responsible experience in occupational safety and health work. The experience may be waived upon presentation of the "Certified Safety Professional" certificate; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Municipal Management Trainee: REQUIRES Accredited Bachelor's Degree. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen as prescribed by the City. Preference given to applicants who have considerable knowledge of safety engineering and accident prevention techniques; applicable state and federal regulations. Must also have the ability to recognize hazards and prescribe corrective action and communicate ideas and recommendations, both orally and in writing to managers, supervisors and field employees.
