The Denver Sheriff Department is seeking qualified applicants to join the Facilities Maintenance Division as an HVAC Mechanic. Successful candidates will be joining an experienced and dedicated team that goes above and beyond every day to provide a wide range of services to the facilities within the Denver Sheriff's Department. This team provides repair needs - both common and emergent, ensure equipment is working properly and building systems are running efficiently. This position will also allow candidates to expand upon their current skill set and learn a variety of other trade skills as the department operates on a "team-player" mentality.
Candidates can expect to work on the "B" Shift, 1P -11P, and will enjoy a 4-day week/10-hour day schedule with the addition of overtime hours available, should candidates be interested. Uniforms and tools are provided for candidates as well, with a yearly uniform allowance.
This position is located at the Van Cise-Simonet Detention Center located in Downtown Denver at 490 Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80204. Please note that this position does NOT require a CDL "B" or snow removal as part of candidates duties.
Successful candidates must complete and pass a background investigation that encompasses the applicant's employment and criminal history.
Job responsibilities will include:
· Inspects facilities and equipment to determine installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair needs as permitted by the appropriate HVAC certification.
·Installs, maintains, and repairs equipment and machinery which may include some fabrication.
·Operates, maintains, and repairs high/low pressure steam/hot water boilers, pumping units vacuum pumps, boiler feed pumps and auxiliary equipment.
·Operates, maintains, replaces, and repairs commercial/industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems, controls, and related equipment.
·Installs, replaces, and repairs forced air heating and duct work.
·Programs and updates automatic building system controls.
· Prepares working sketches and works from blueprints.
·Assists in the maintenance and repair work in a variety of other skilled trades areas. Performs general plant and building maintenance repair.
·Plans and coordinates installation, maintenance, and repair work with other trades areas.
·Maintains records and prepares reports; and, estimates materials, labor, and equipment costs.
·Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.About You

·Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
·Experience: Four (4) years field experience or 7,000 hours on-the-job training as required for certification by the City and County of Denver as a Heating and Ventilating Journeyman, Refrigeration Journeyman or Stationary Engineer.
·Education & Experience Equivalency: None.
·Licensure & Certification: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Possession of Refrigeration Operator, CFC (universal EPA), Heating and Ventilating Journeyman, Refrigeration Journeyman or Stationary Engineer certificates issued by the City and County of Denver by the end of the probationary period. By Position Requires CDL "B" with appropriate endorsement by the end of probationary period. By position, may require more than one certification.
