The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a full-time Psychiatric Nurse 3 at Desert Willow Treatment Center (DWTC) located in Las Vegas, Nevada.
DWTC is an inpatient psychiatric hospital that provides mental health treatment for children ages 12 to 17. This position has the authority and responsibility to ensure that safe and effective patient care is being provided; assures compliance with nursing standards, the Joint Commission accreditation standards, Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance licensing standards, and DCFS policies; assists Psychiatric Nurse 4 and Director of Nursing with administrative tasks; assists in the development and monitoring of discipline specific competencies; oversees the tracking of all mandatory training for nursing staff; provides orientation, training, and education to all new and existing nursing staff; and is responsible for staff scheduling and ensuring safe and adequate staff-to-patient ratios on all patient care units 24/7.
Incumbent provides positive leadership for nursing staff; provides stabilization of emergencies while arranging for transport and direct nursing services when needed; interacts with the patients' families; provides input and makes recommendations concerning nursing care issues; monitors staff performance of patient monitoring, to include safety of patients, staff, and security of the building; makes observations regarding patients and the effectiveness of nursing care provided such as medication management; and makes and implements recommendations for change. This position will work with staff to correct deficiencies noted. The incumbent will occasionally be required to work overtime to ensure that quality patient care is provided. The position must be able to perform all the duties of the Psychiatric Nurse 2 in providing direct care to the patients at DWTC. This position also assists in developing, reviewing, revising, and implementing policies related to patient care, nursing services, and continuous quality improvement.

This is a full-time position with a variable work agreement, overtime is gained after 40 hours in a week. DWTC operates 7 days per week, 24 hours per day, with three shifts.

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
