Position Description

Forestry Program Managers plan, coordinate, and oversee activities, services, and staff in major program areas such as resource management, fire management, conservation camp management, support services management, or safety and training management. The incumbent functions as a manager who trains supervise and evaluates the performance of subordinate supervisors; develops policies and procedures; and allocates staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

This position is located in the State Office in Carson City and is responsible for leadership and oversight of all natural resource and conservation activities at the agency including, but not limited to: administration, technical assistance & outreach, as well as coordination of statewide programs in forest, rangeland and watershed resource management, forest health, urban & community forestry, wildfire rehabilitation, wildfire hazard reduction, threatened & endangered species, conservation plant materials, environmental education, climate change mitigation, permitting and compliance, and biomass utilization. The incumbent provides fiscal, payroll and personnel functions, including staff development & training, represents the Agency in various venues and in public.

The position functions as the endangered species program coordinator, requiring grant administration duties including preparing annual grant solicitations, grant applications, annual reporting, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines, budget creation and budget tracking. The position is expected to work across programs in the Division to ensure that the agency is strategically moving toward agency goals and objectives. This position supports the emergency response mission of the Nevada Division of Forestry, as a State Duty Officer, and may be called to assist with wildland fire suppression and other emergencies as qualified. This position travels regularly in-state and out-of-state via state-owned vehicles or commercial airlines to conduct state business.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in forestry, natural resources management or closely related field and four years of professional experience in natural resource management, two years which included supervisory experience; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and six years of experience as described above, two years which included supervisory experience; OR one year of experience as a Conservation Camp Area Supervisor, Fire Management Officer II, or Helitack Supervisor in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience as a Battalion Chief, Conservation Camp Supervisor, or Fire Management Officer I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
