Conservation Staff Specialists assist in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures related to areas such as resource management, safety and training, fire management and policy management pertinent to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection.
The Fire Adapted Nevada Partnership (FAN) is a statewide partnership of land and fire management agencies, communities, homeowners, and businesses that promote and facilitate implementation of wildfire education and preparedness actions, including defensible space, home hardening, and threat mitigation activities. The Coordinator is responsible for providing the leadership and coordination necessary to: 1) Facilitate the creation and operations of a sustainable partnership that provides necessary support to fire-adapted communities pursuing full preparedness for the occurrence of wildfire, 2) Support the development of and monitor community wildfire protection planning efforts that allow communities, counties and agencies to follow a blueprint for effective mitigation and preparedness actions, 3) Promote community investment and incentives for reducing the risk of loss through fuel reduction, defensible space, home hardening, and other effective mitigation actions, and 4) Promote community adoption of Firewise USA and Ready, Set, Go! Programs and use of the Fire Adapted Community Learning Network to aid community unification toward effective wildfire preparedness actions.
The Coordinator will provide programmatic development, establishment, and operations management following the recommendations of the Multi-Agency Coordinating Group. Supervisory, legal, logistical, and fiscal oversight provided by staff of the Nevada Division of Forestry. The position is planned to supervise multiple community liaison positions that will facilitate programmatic field activities in communities across broad regions within the state.
The position is expected to work across programs in the Division to ensure that the agency is strategically moving toward goals and objectives. This position travels regularly in-state and out-of-state via state-owned vehicles or commercial airlines to conduct state business. - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, natural resource management, forestry, parks management, fire management or related field and three years of journey level professional experience in a relevant resource management field that included assisting in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures; coordinating special grant programs and/or contracts; and coordinating training programs; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Experience in the following is required: 1) Microsoft Publisher 2) Microsoft PowerPoint 3) Microsoft Excel (Intermediate level) 4)Microsoft Word (Intermediate level) 5) Microsoft Access.
