DEFINITION:
Heads a masonry section comprised of eight to thirty journey-level and sub-journey-level positions, or as first assistant to a higher level supervisor performing plastering, bricklaying, marble and tile setting, or other masonry construction, alteration, and repair work.
Essential Job Functions
Plans, assigns, supervises and inspects the work of journey-level subordinates, apprentices, helpers and laborers in plastering, bricklaying, marble and tile setting, or other masonry construction, alteration and repair work.

Supervises the maintenance of work records.

Lays out jobs and estimates labor and material requirements.

Ensures that code requirements, safety regulation and safe work practices are observed.

Coordinates work activities with other crafts and operating units.

Determines work methods and types of materials to be used.

Advises superiors concerning specifications for masonry work in construction and alteration projects performed under contract.

Orders and maintains a stock of materials and supplies.

Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites, in order to transport the necessary tools, equipment, and materials required to perform the job.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Three years (3) journey-level* experience in masonry work which must have included experience in two or more of the following masonry crafts: plastering, bricklaying, marble or tile setting, cement finishing or metal lathing.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.

LICENSE INFORMATION:
Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant's driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

PHYSICAL CLASS III - Moderate :
Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION :
*Journey-level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full-range and diversity of work independently and reliably. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Additional credit will be given to applicants that possess the following desirable qualifications: Any additional experience in excess of the Minimum Requirements for the qualifying option.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience based upon application information and desirable qualifications weighted 100%.

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination in order to be placed on the Eligible Register.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION :
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis, and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.


The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.

AVAILABLE SHIFT:
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
