Current: $20.45 - $27.40 per hour ($42,540 - $56,998 anually)
Effective July, 2021: $22.55 - $30.20 per hour ($46,896 - $62,820 anually) Equipment Mechanic II:
Current: $24.46 - $32.79 per hour ($50,880 - $68,196 anually)
Effective July, 2021: $26.97 - $36.14 per hour ($56,100 - $75,180 anually) Equipment Mechanic III:
Current: $26.36 - $35.33 per hour ($54,828 - $73,476 anually)
Effective July, 2021: $29.06 - $38.94 per hour ($60,444 - $81,000 anually)
*Salary Tier based on eligibility * Effective July 2022: 2% increase (for all classifications)* Due to recent budget reductions, full-time employees in these classifications are required to furlough 104 hours between June 21, 2020 and June 18, 2021. New employees will have their required furlough hours prorated based on hire date. THE POSITION:
Under general supervision, an incumbent performs skilled and specialized work in the maintenance and repair of automotive, construction, heavy truck, fire apparatus and a variety of equpment; and performs related duties as required. APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS:

A typical way to obtain the requisite knowledge and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of this classification is as follows: Equipment Mechanic I: EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Some experiences in automotive repair and graduation from high school, including or supplemented by some related vocational training. LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession of a valid California Driver's License, Class C or higher, and the ability to obtain a Class B or higher license. Equipment Mechanic II:
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Experience in automotive (including heavy trucks), construction, and/or safety vehicle and equipment repair and high school graduation including or supplemented by a steady and current record of related vocational training.
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and the ability to obtain a Class B or higher license.Equipment Mechanic III:
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school graduation, or its equivalent, supplemented by a steady and current record of related vocational study. A high degree of proficiency in the area of specialization is desired.
Progressively responsible experience as a full-time journey level mechanic in the repair of heavy and light automotive vehicles and equipment, with considerable experience in maintenance and repair of specialized fire equipment and the use of sophisticated diagnostic equipment.
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession or the ability to obtain a valid Class C or higher California Driver's License. Possession of a valid Class A California Driver's License with air brake, tank and manual transmission endorsements within 6 months of hire. Revocation of licenses during employment may result in disciplinary action or reassignment.Desirable:
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications in automotive and heavy truck repair.
California Fire Mechanic State certifications as a Mechanic I, II, or III.
Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certified *Revocation of license during employment may result in disciplinary action or reassignment.

Employees receive the following health insurance flexible benefits contribution:
- Effective July 7, 2019: $1,400 monthly
- Effective June 2022: $1,500 monthly
The City does not participate in the Social Security system; however, federal mandate requires new employees to contribute 1.45% of wages to Medicare. As a condition of employment, all new employees are required to enroll and participate in the direct deposit program.
