Salary: $89,040.00 - $109,920.00 Annually USD
Responds to fire alarms and other emergency calls and inspects buildings and properties.
Responds to fire alarms.
Provides emergency medical treatment services including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Performs vehicle and accident extrication.
Inspects buildings and property for compliance with fire protection laws, including alarm systems and water supply systems.
Participates in and conducts training sessions and practice drills.
Performs routine maintenance of hydrants, vehicles, fire station buildings and quarters.
Performs related accurate record-keeping duties.
May be required to make presentations to schools, service clubs, or other public gatherings on fire and burn prevention and disaster preparedness.
May serve as relief dispatcher, acting driver, or acting company commander.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Follow written and oral instructions.
Learn and apply basic fire fighting techniques and procedures.
Perform physical duties which include reaching, lifting, carrying, and pulling.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Perform mathematical calculations.
Remain calm in emergencies.
Acquire medical certifications as required.
Education, Training, and Experience:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
One year recent, full-time, paid experience as a firefighter with an organized, local government agency performing a full-range of fire suppression duties, or two full seasons of experience as a seasonal firefighter (e.g. California Department of Forestry, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Ventura County Fire Department) performing a full-range of fire suppression duties.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a current EMT certification; and Fire Fighter I certificate issued by the California State Fire Marshal, or graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in Fire Technology.
Possession of a valid California Class "C" with Firefighter endorsement driver's license.

Candidates must be on the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List by October 28, 2021. The FCTC written test should be taken within 12 months prior to the October 28th deadline (between 10/28/20 and 10/28/21).

Must obtain a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Certificate within twelve months of application submission. Additionally, the CPAT Certificate is required to be obtained within twelve (12) months of date of hire.

Psychological Examination: Candidates will be evaluated for their suitability for employment as a Santa Monica Firefighter.
Medical Examination: Prior to appointment, candidates must successfully complete a thorough medical examination, including a drug screen, to determine if they meet the City's medical standards for the position of Firefighter.

Proof of COVID 19 vaccination will be required as a condition of employment.
NOTE : Upon hire, Lateral Firefighters must be non-users of tobacco products; requirement continues throughout Fire Service career with City of Santa Monica.
