Description

The County of San Mateo's Emergency Medical Services Agency is seeking two highly motivated candidates, preferably with previous Public Health and Emergency Preparedness knowledge and experience. These individuals will be assigned to the Health Emergency Preparedness Unit in the Emergency Medical Services Agency and will engage the San Mateo County Healthcare Coalition in preparing and maintaining readiness activities and engaging them in the County's emergency preparedness and response planning efforts. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) partners with local organizations and emergency response agencies to ensure everyone involved in an emergency response is specially trained and properly equipped when disaster strikes in San Mateo County. EMS is the agency that regulates public and private emergency medical services and provides trainings and disaster planning as well as response services.

These positions will work closely with the Healthcare Coalition Coordinator and the Health Emergency Preparedness Manager. These positions will help support the relationship between County Health and the healthcare facilities that serve our population. Responsibilities will also include helping maintain plans and procedures put in place during COVID-19 to reduce the impact on the general population and the healthcare system.

NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

Examples Of Duties
  • Engage and foster working relationships with San Mateo County (SMC) healthcare facilities and stakeholders
  • Assist in coordinating and/or facilitating exercises, drills, and trainings
  • Assist in any medical/health response activities including wildfires and power shutoffs
  • Assist in maintaining the Local Pharmaceutical Cache and Medical Equipment Cache
  • Provide support and assistance to COVID-19 response efforts including facility outreach, PPE maintenance, statistical analysis, database creation and maintenance
  • Assists with reporting grant deliverables and activities associated with the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program and the Hospital Preparedness Program.
  • Assist with collecting and analyzing data
  • Help develop a community profile on specific programs
  • Identify and assist in engaging existing resources in the community
  • Arrange and/or provide assistance or staff services to service providers, community groups and other special interest groups based on existing EMS plans and guidance
  • Coordinate and work with agencies and individuals in a specific community program
  • Organize and coordinate workshops, meetings, or sessions for individuals and groups in the community involved in specific programs
  • Provide technical assistance to the related agencies, community groups and other interest groups
  • Assists with preparing a variety of correspondence, periodic and special reports, informational publications, program documentation, policies, procedures and other written materials
  • Perform related duties as assigned
This position has the tentative start date of May 18th. There are 2 openings for this position.
Qualifications
Knowledge of :
  • Methods applied to the collection and evaluation of statistical data
  • Methods applied to the cleaning and visualization of data
  • Computer applications related to the work (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, PowerBI, video conferencing platforms)
  • Office administrative practices and procedures, including records management and the operation of standard office equipment.
Skill/Ability to :

Additionally, the following are highly preferred:
  • Completed courses: FEMA IS 100, 200, 700, 800. Successful candidates will be expected to complete any trainings they have not already taken within the first two months of their start date
  • Bachelor's Degree or Associate's degree in relevant fields; emergency management, business administration, public administration, public health, communications, criminal justice, or a related
  • Any work experience responding to COVID-19 in a clinical/emergency response capacity
  • Principles, practices, and administrative requirements of the Hospital Preparedness Program
  • Principles, practices, and administrative requirements of the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program
  • Principles of emergency planning and program development related to community services
