The Sheriff's Department is recruiting for Correctional Nurses Per Diem who provide professional nursing care and services within the adult and juvenile correctional facilities throughout the San Bernardino County. Medical care is provided to inmates from the time of booking through release. In the correctional environment, inmates may present with emergent and urgent needs providing registered nurses with many opportunities to function autonomously and impact the health of a unique population. All inmates are medically screened upon arrival and evaluated for medical and mental health conditions which could require continued care and treatment. As part of a team of health professionals, registered nurses provide a full range of services including daily sick call, medication administration, treatments, dialysis, radiology services, dental care, and psychiatric care.The list established by this recruitment will be used to fill current and future Sheriff and Probation department vacancies as they arise while the list remains active.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1) Certification: Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support certification. 2) Shift: Must be available to work various 8-12 hour shifts on a 24 hour basis, which include day, night, swing, rotating, holidays or weekends.A shift differential of $2.00 per hour swing shift and $3.50 per hour night shift applies . 3) Background: Candidates must not have been convicted of a felony and must pass a background investigation including a fingerprint check and polygraph. 4) Physical Demands: Incumbents will be required to immediately respond to emergency situations while on duty which may involve hostile and volatile wards and inmates. Requires the following physical demands: balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, standing, stooping, turning, twisting and walking long distances both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions; hand and finger dexterity in both hands; ability to manipulate heavy duty security locks and doors; reaching or working above and below shoulder level; normal vision, including color discrimination; normal hearing; carrying up to 10 pounds. 5) Working Conditions: Working conditions involve exposure to hazardous and infectious materials and to communicable diseases. 6) Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required . Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation.
Note: Correctional Nurses Per Diem are not regular positions within the County, and are not guaranteed employment or hours. Candidates must possess all of the following:
License: Must possess and maintain a current Registered Nurse license in the State of California
Experience: One (1) year of experience as a registered nurse
Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS)
Candidates possessing experience in a correctional environment are desired.
