Position Summary

Under the direction of the Head Women's Water Polo Coach, the Second Assistant Women's Water Polo Coach will support and enhance the mission of the San Diego State University Athletic Department. This position will be responsible for assisting in the direction of the Water Polo program, performing a variety of coaching functions related to the sport of water polo in the Athletic Department. These coaching functions include, but are not limited to the following: recruiting, administrative duties, coaching, teaching, staging, and fundraising.

This is a part-time (0.25 time-base), temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2021, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.

This appointment is for a 10/12 pay-plan position. The incumbent works 10 months per year and is paid over 12 months, with June and the holiday break (mid-December to mid-January) as the anticipated off months.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one year of high school, collegiate or junior/community college experience as an assistant water polo coach

Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

Ability to obtain a valid California driver's license within 10 days of hire. Must obtain CPR/AED, First Aid, and Lifesaving certifications within 60 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree.
  • Two or more years as a water polo coach in NCAA Division I, II, or III.
  • Division I playing experience.
  • National and international recruiting connections, including USA Water Polo Olympic Development Pipeline (ODP).
  • Knowledge of conference rules and regulations. Experience with community outreach programs.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $1,058 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,229 - $5,654 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
