      Full-time temporary position available on or after October 4, 2021 and ending on or before October 3, 2022 in Housing & Residential Life. Appointment will be made for one year from date of hire with the possibility of reappointment based on budget, department needs, and job performance.

      Under the general supervision of the Associate Director for Residential Life, the Residential Life Coordinator serves as a professional live-on-campus representative of Housing and Residential Life. In this capacity, the Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) is responsible for facilitating a dynamic and supportive community experience designed to support the personal growth, academic engagement, intercultural competence, and community interdependence of residents. Working closely with the other RLC and a team of Resident Assistants, this position develops and implements key components of the resident engagement and learning experience for Housing and Residential Life.
    • Job Duties
    • Duties include but are not limited to:
      • Work collaboratively to develop and facilitate a sense of community and belonging supporting a holistic student living and learning environment for assigned residential area, including academic year and summer residential experiences.
      • Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of Residential Life curricular goals and strategies for resident engagement and learning.
      • Implement strategies reflective of learning goals established for Residential Life's residential curriculum, including community events and activities, community meetings, individual resident contacts, conflict mediation, health and wellness inspections, and leadership programs.
      • Conduct outreach in the residential community to actively facilitate connections with residential students and understand resident interests and needs.
      • Advise and refer students regarding academic, personal, and wellbeing concerns to support resident connection, belonging, adjustment, and persistence within the residential and campus community. Maintain a working knowledge of campus and community resources.
      • Respond and thoroughly address resident issues and concerns in a thoughtful and timely manner. Communicate and refer concerns and complaints to supervisor or appropriate campus partner.
      • Guide and lead student leader facilitation of developmental and culturally responsive roommate agreement and conflict mediation practices. Intervene and mediate as needed for residents in matters where the efforts of the RA have not been successful.
      • Assess and track trends in resident needs and communicate with Associate Director for Residential Life in addressing those trends.
      • Assist and participate in the planning and implementation of department-wide events and initiatives, including Welcome Week, Welcome Back Week, Dean's List Reception, Huddles, etc.
      • Assist and participate in the implementation of recruitment events for Housing and Residential Life, including Open House, Warrior Welcome, and New Student Orientation.
      • Live on-site and rotate serving as primary on-call contact for all Housing and Residential Life emergencies and issues. Work with staff and students to respond to issues and policy concerns.
      • Participate as the first responder to situations that require campus administrative support to deal with facilities or student crises; execute independent judgment in providing duty coverage on evenings, weekends and holidays. Return to campus as needed.
      • Be observant when interacting with the community to recognize changes in behavior, etc. which may point toward resident crisis.
      • Analyze non-emergency and emergency situations to determine appropriate department response and need to involve/inform other campus personnel. Implement response as needed.
      • Participate in regular emergency response planning, including tabletop exercises
      • Cross-train across functional areas within the unit to ensure business continuity in a crisis.
      • In the event of a campus or department emergency during daily work hours remain on-site and implement department emergency protocols. Do not leave until authorized to do so by designated manager.
      • Enforce department, university, system, state, and federal policies, regulations, and protocols.
      • Serve as the primary conduct case manager for assigned residential area; facilitate the residential conduct process for residents, collaborating with the Associate Director to provide appropriate response for violations to residential policies. Refer to and consult with Student Conduct Administrator as appropriate.
      • Ensure assigned resident cases are appropriately documented and managed in Maxient.
      • Participate in weekly Residential Care and Conduct meetings to review, assess, norm, and coordinate continued response and support of resident issues and incidents.
      • Comply with federal, state, and system-wide requirements for reporting.
      • Partner, as appropriate on programs, activities, services, and response efforts which support the development of the residential community. Liaison with campus colleagues whose role is impacted by occurrences within Housing and Residential Life; this may include: Student Conduct Administrator, Dean of Students, University Police, Title IX Coordinator, Clery Director, Risk Management, and Student Victim Advocate.
      • Hire, train, develop, and lead 6-10 Resident Assistants for the academic year and 3-6 Resident Assistants during the summer. Act as a backup lead to all other RA's and as a supportive resource for all other Housing student employees.
      • Collaborate with the other RLC to create and implement Resident Assistant training and development; communicate and collaborate with Residential Education team on shared training and development experiences and needs between Resident Assistants and Peer Academic Coaches.
      • Collaborate with the other RLC to create and lead the RA duty rotation schedule to support after-hours response.
      • Hold informative and developmental weekly staff meetings.
      • Hold bi-weekly one-on-one sessions with individual Resident Assistants. Mentor and guide Resident Assistants to help them develop their own analytical and interpersonal skills to ensure they build supportive relationships with their assigned communities.
      • In consultation with the Associate Director for Residential Life, implement accountability measures to ensure Resident Assistants are responsibly and effectively carrying out the duties of their positions.
      • Provide a written performance evaluation for each assigned Resident Assistant, consulting with the other RLC and Associate Director on performance expectations for Resident Assistants.
      • Foster an environment within the residential community in which residents accept and respect their Resident Assistant as a knowledgeable peer figure, role model for community engagement, and reliable leader in supporting a safe residential community.
      • Maintain a strong knowledge of regional and national student housing trends to ensure training topics are timely and appropriate.
      • Develop a working knowledge of Housing and Residential Life operations and support coordination of processes throughout Housing and Residential Life.
      • Assist and participate in the formulation and implementation of organizational goals and objectives. Participate in regular department and component meetings.
      • Assist in the departmental planning and implementation of Opening and Closing processes and activities.
      • Support resident placement needs and processes, including proactively communicating and collaborating on placement plans, room change requests, and room readiness efforts.
      • Work with operations, maintenance, and custodial teams to support high quality service.
      • Serves as part of the Housing and Residential Life team to devise, implement, and evaluate departmental goals, policies, processes, and programs.
      • Opportunity to lead and/or assist with annual projects, including student leader recruitment, training and development planning, equity and inclusion planning, revising Residential Life processes, services, and/or protocols, at the direction of the Associate Director and responsive to professional development goals.

    • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education : Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. (Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
      Experience : Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. (A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.)
    • Preferred Qualifications

      • One year full-time experience leading or managing a residence hall or major component of a residence life program.
      • Knowledge of residence hall operations and functions, including duty and emergency response protocols.
      • Demonstrated skills in leadership development, supervision, small and large group facilitation, advising, training, community building and student development, and budget management.
      • Experience in conflict mediation and resolution amidst a diverse population.
      • Experience with hiring, training and leading.
      • Understanding of and ability to apply basics of student development theory and curricular approaches to the residential living and learning experience.
      • Knowledge of student conduct practices in higher education.
      • Knowledge of and ability to address a variety of wellness issues related to students living in campus housing.
      • General knowledge of interviewing, crisis intervention, and counseling techniques.
      • Working knowledge of student support service units which work closely with Housing and Residential Life
      • Ability to proactively engage and maintain connections with residents.
      • Ability and interest in working with a diverse population and demonstrate an understanding and responsiveness to the needs of under-represented groups and initiatives that support and enhance equity and inclusion.
      • Strong verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
      • Ability to perform under pressure, relate positively to people, and to motivate others to function as a fully participative member of a team.
      • Ability to interpret and evaluate problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
      • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, as well as a thorough knowledge of department and campus policies, procedures and practices. Understanding of FERPA student records privacy regulations, as well as other federal regulations applicable to campus housing departments.

    • The incumbent will live on campus and rotate serving as primary on-call contact for all Housing and Residential Life emergencies and issues.

    • Salary Range
    • $4,304 - $6,120 per month plus excellent paid benefits. (Anticipated salary will be $4,304 - $5,165 per month, depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.)
