Under general direction, the Technology Manager plans, organizes, directs, and manages a major functional area within the Valley Transportation Authority's (VTA) Technology Department; including design, implementation, and maintenance of technology solutions that enable VTA to meet its business goals.
This non-represented management classification is characterized by full managerial responsibility for a functional area within the Technology Department. The Technology Manager plans, coordinates, and directs research, design, development, and implementation of computer-related activities for VTA, helps determine both technical and business goals in consultation with executive management, and develops detailed plans for the accomplishment of these goals. The Technology Manager provides expert advice and guidance to VTA leadership and managers in procuring resources, in developing and implementing system standards and information access, and in developing and implementing long-range plans and strategies to effectively integrate VTA's information management resources and business plan to achieve VTA's objectives.
Key responsibilities include technology evaluation and planning; developing and maintaining standards and policies; operation and evolution of VTA information systems; implementation and support of Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks, data communication and information delivery systems, and voice communications and delivery systems; operation and support for data center; database, SAP Basis, and UNIX support for the enterprise SAP application; support for desktop productivity tools; and implementation and support of client/server and web applications.
Significant training, education, and public or private sector experience managing a work force involved with information or operational technologies that demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in information systems, computer science, business or public administration, or a related field; and extensive increasingly responsible managerial experience directing and managing information systems programs, including several years of supervisory experience managing a work force with emphasis on using technology solutions in order to meet and further business goals.
