The job duties of the Line Repair ConstructionTraineeand Crew Member I may include the following:
- Under general supervision, completes a variety of manual labor, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks in the repair and construction of the wastewater collection system; assists with excavation of sanitary sewer lines, force mains, and manholes; uses general construction and equipment knowledge to make independent decisions regarding methods, materials, and equipment needed in the completion of assigned line repair and construction tasks; completes work site restoration tasks such as installation of a variety of erosion control and landscape materials; sets up traffic controls and completes traffic control tasks such as flagging.
- Operates a variety of vehicles, light, medium, and heavy duty equipment, and tools, including backhoe, skid-steer, dump trucks, and boom trucks; operates and installs trenching devices such as trench boxes, jacks, and ladders; follows established safety protocols for completion of safety sensitive work, such as wearing required personal protective equipment and following guidelines and directions for confined space entries, shoring, and excavation; responds to emergency and afterhours calls for service to assist with routine and non-routine emergency requests.
- Enters data into maintenance and other tracking systems; completes routine preventative maintenance as well as preventative maintenance of a more complex nature; responds to customer service inquiries and escalates more complex questions or concerns to a crew leader or supervisor.
To be eligible for consideration as a Line Repair Trainee
, the candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. This position has a maximum employment duration of three months, during that time trainees must obtain their Class ACDL with air brake and tanker endorsement. After receiving the proper licensure, employment will continue as a Line RepairCrew Member I. Pay will increase to $18.27 per hour or more.
To be eligible for consideration as a Line Repair Construction Crew Member I
, the candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalentand a Class A driver's license withair brake endorsement and anacceptable driving record.
Both the Line Repair Construction Trainee and Crew Member I jobs are safety sensitive and require excessive standing and walking, exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, chemicals, heights, loud noises, raw sewage, and confined spaces. Both jobs also require lifting and carrying of80 pounds, pushing and pulling 75 pounds, climbing, bending, crouching, kneeling, and balancing.
One year of experience in water or wastewater system construction or repair is preferred.
Education can substitute for experience. Experience can substitute for education. Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
