Job Summary

Under the supervision of the California Cybersecurity Training Complex Program Manager for the California Cybersecurity Institute (CCI), with joint direction from the Associate Vice President for University Development and Alumni Engagement (UDAE), t he Senior Director of Development for CCI is r esponsible for prospect qualification, cultivation solicitation, stewardship, and coordination of internal support activities. This position represents the University by conducting outreach to alumni, friends, parents, key volunteers, and corporate and foundation partners .

Expectations and goals include the following:
  • Develop and manage a personal portfolio of 120 individual, corporate and foundation prospects and donors, while maintaining confidentiality

  • Develop strategies for solicitation of major gifts with an emphasis on six/seven figure gifts and blended gifts

  • Conduct 150 donor meetings annually

  • Qualify 75 major gift prospects annually

  • Solicit 20 major gifts ($25,000 or more) annually

Department Summary

The role of the University Development and Alumni Engagement (UDAE) Division is to foster strong relationships with internal and external partners to enhance support for Cal Poly. University Development establishes and implements an overall advancement program, including coordinating fundraising, communications, government and community relations, marketing and alumni programs.

The California Cybersecurity Institute (CCI) teaches Californians to protect California through cybercrime forensics and statewide tactical response training. The program helps shape California's cyber standards and practices by offering an environment for cyber defense innovation through advanced study and basic and applied research on emerging issues and technical challenges.

The CCI is a public-private partnership bringing together the best subject matter experts to address the "cyber" needs of the State of California. Under this effort, we employ the California Polytechnic State University pedagogy "Learn by Doing" to create live immersive scenarios that are real, current, and relevant. This training and research provide an accurate context of particular challenges as well as tactical exercises that ensures retention and proper deployment of solutions.

Key Qualifications
  • Ability to quickly gain knowledge of and adapt to the Plus Delta's Donor Engagement Process.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a strategic partner to build, grow, and maintain profitable and long-lasting relationships with key accounts.

  • Demonstrated skill and initiative in tough situations; demonstrated skill at spotting and seizing opportunities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience, including a minimum of three (3) years in development, advancement, fundraising, sales or a related field.
