St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) in St. Paul, Minnesota is seeking a Controller to be responsible for the financial operations of the District. As the largest urban school district in Minnesota, SPPS serves more than 37,000 students with a staff of 6,140, and a total annual budget of over $822 million.

Job Description

The SPPS Controller manages and supervises functions of the Department of Business and Financial Affairs, including accounts payable and receivable, general accounting and financial reporting, grants management, purchasing, and the Minnesota Automated Reporting Student System reporting (MARSS). This position oversees the establishment and enforcement of financial compliance regulations across the District. This position manages a large staff of professional, technical, and clerical personnel, including all accountant/accounting personnel.

Job Requirements

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field and ten (10) years of accounting or financial administration experience with increasing responsibilities for supervision, leadership and management in finance in a large and diverse organization setting. Qualified candidates will have at least seven years of experience as an Accountant 4 or equivalent. Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is preferred.  Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification and/or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Certification is preferred.

The District offers a competitive annual starting salary extending from $107,939 - $153,485 depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The District also provides a generous benefits package including medical and dental insurance, life insurance, long term disability (LTD), health savings account, flexible spending account, tax sheltered annuity, paid holidays, annual sick leave and vacation as well as participation in the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA).
