The City of Newport Beach is seeking one part-time Code Enforcement Officer Trainee to join the Harbor Department. The Harbor Department is responsible for the enforcement of Title 17 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code relating to harbor use, vessel and property maintenance, zoning, health and safety, specified building codes, noise, water quality, business regulations, and nuisances; this position will be responsible for conducting inspections of vessels and private and public docks and other water related infrastructure; applicants must be detail-orientated, capable of maintaining records, conducting field inspections, and on-site education and outreach with a wide range of harbor users; will serve as "Ambassadors to Newport Harbor" assisting recreational boaters and commercial users; and provide effective code related education and enforcement service. SELECTION COMPONENTS:

Six months experience involving heavy public contact, including general compliance, investigatory, or enforcement experience. Municipal government experience desirable. Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. College level course work in criminal justice, science, business or public administration desirable; a Bachelor's degree is highly desirable . License/Certification:
Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
Possession of Penal Code Section 832 certification within twelve months of hire. Please Note:
