Supervises a large crew of custodians and other workers maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of County offices, hospitals, health and correctional facilities, institutions, and buildings.
Essential Job Functions
Assigns, instructs, and supervises lower-level supervisors and workers, and inspects work performed.
Ensures that safe work practices are observed.
Ensures an adequate inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment is stocked and distributed to cleaning crews.
Investigates complaints regarding services and attempts to improve service.
Plans and prepares employees work schedules.
Evaluates the work of subordinates and completes their performance evaluations.
Ensures cleaning equipment is properly maintained and identifies worn out or damaged equipment for salvage.
Reports building conditions requiring repair or maintenance.
Investigates and resolves service complaints
Maintains records and makes reports.
Checks and maintains equipment to ensure that it is in working order.
Occasionally performs the work of a custodian as may be necessary.
Monitors contract janitorial services as may be necessary.
Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites as may be necessary.
Requirements SELECTION REQUIREMENTS: Option I:
Two (2) years of experience as a Custodian Working Supervisor or higher in the County of Los Angeles supervising workers performing cleaning duties in an institution*, office building or similar facility.
-OR- Option II:
Three (3) years of experience supervising workers performing cleaning duties in an institution, office building, or similar facility. LICENSE :
Some positions in this classification, depending upon assignment, require possession of a valid California Class C Driver License to perform job related essential functions. Candidates offered these positions would be required to show proof of a driver license before appointment. PHYSICAL CLASS III - MODERATE:
Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION :
*Institutional facilities are defined as hospitals, health centers, juvenile detention centers, jails, prisons, or residential care facilities. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of the Environment of Care Standards
- Experience utilizing the Microsoft suite of software programs, such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience based upon application information and desirable qualifications weighted at 100%.Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination in order to be added to the eligible register. ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
Applications will be processed on an "as-received"
basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing score on the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months. shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
