Summary

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Colusa County Library is recruiting for a Library Assistant I to perform a wide variety of library work in support of various branch and/or main library activities including working the circulation desk, preparing materials for circulation, and maintaining accurate files and records.

There is one part-time (30 hours per week) position available. This position will include coverage at the Grimes and Stonyford branches, help with inter-branch deliveries, inter-branch communication, branch coverage for sick/vacation times and branch program support. This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assist in the general operation of a branch library; supervise the branch library operation in the absence of the Branch Librarian.

Serve at the circulation desk; check books in and out of the library and issue library cards.

Identify overdue materials; process notices as required; collect, record and account for payment of fines.

Answer routine informational questions; refer more difficult or technical questions to appropriate library staff.

Maintain a variety of clerical files.

Receive and sort through materials donated to the library.

Assist in processing new materials for circulation purposes.

Review reference collection periodically; read shelves to ensure that books are in order; weed collection as needed.

Prepare library exhibits and displays; conduct library tours.

Perform routine clerical assignments including typing.

May perform simple reference work and administer children's services.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade

- Prior experience in basic library work is preferred
