Classification: Supervisory
To oversee the activities of the Homeless Innovations department.

Essential Areas of Responsibility

The Supervisor for the Homeless Innovations department interacts frequently with various community based organizations, organizing meetings, collecting data, developing and implementing contracts and reports. The Supervisor is often the Agency's representative in community meetings.

In addition, the Supervisor monitors, supervises and formally evaluates the work of others. This job class functions at the full supervisory level of performance and the majority of duties are directly related to the supervision of a significant number of staff members. Employees in this job class are responsible for the successful implementation of assigned functions while ensuring compliance with a variety of pertinent federal, and Agency regulations, guidelines and policies. This job class requires a thorough knowledge of the above stated regulations, guidelines and policies as well as excellent supervisory and communication skills.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree plus 2 years or AA and 4 years, or 6 years experience in public/assisted housing programs. Preference is given to candidates with previous supervisory experience.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Staff Supervision
Model supervisory strategies and approaches that demonstrate the Agency Cultural Objectives in all aspects of staff communication and supervision, when supervising directly or when coaching a staff member to whom you have delegated supervisory responsibility. Supervisory duties include the responsibility to:
  • Provide new employee orientation and training
  • Ensure that assigned staff has appropriate equipment and knowledge of procedures for implementing the work objectives
  • Monitor assignments and maintain the level of productivity in the unit or department
  • Assure quality of service to the internal and/or external customer base
  • Establish performance objectives and provide ongoing feedback
  • Write and conduct performance reviews that communicate both honest assessment and clear goals and objectives
  • Conduct staff meetings, resolve staff issues and build team relationships
  • Communicate management's position, Agency information and work changes to employees
  • Comply with Agency policies and practices when acting on or reviewing personnel-related issues including, but not limited to: staff selection, salary offers, time off and overtime requests, employee complaints and concerns and termination
  • Promote quality customer service
Grant Management
  • Establish contracts with local agencies, both public and private, that are serving persons experiencing homelessness
  • Monitor expenditures for various grant programs
  • Collaborate with community-based partners
  • Gather data, both internally and from community-based partners
  • Develop Reports for internal use as well as for publication
  • Ensure regular communication with various stake-holders
  • Track performance measures and hold others accountable
  • Develop processes for efficient work flow
