California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley. CSUSB serves approximately 20,000 students, of which 81% are first-generation college students and graduates about 5,000 students annually. JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Psychology at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for the position of Department Chair at the Associate or Full Professor rank beginning August 1, 2021. This invitation is for candidates internal to the psychology department at CSUSB only. The ideal candidate will be an experienced faculty member with demonstrated leadership and administrative skills, an established record of scholarly research and evidence of commitment to student success. The Chair is expected to provide leadership in shaping and facilitating the future of the department including student success, faculty and staff development, faculty mentoring, and strategic planning. The Department of Psychology is located in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and offers a B.A. in Psychology, a B.A. in Biological Psychology, a B.A. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and a B.A. in Human Development (with two concentrations - Child Development and Lifespan Development). Additionally, the department offers M.A. programs in Psychological Science and Child Development, as well as M.S. programs in Clinical/Counseling and Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The Department has 31 full-time tenure track faculty members and approximately 2400 undergraduate majors and 150 graduate majors.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

The successful candidate will provide responsible and professional leadership in managing the day-to-day operational needs of the department, including supervision of support staff, scheduling courses, evaluating and mentoring faculty, fiscal management and allocating facilities and equipment for teaching, research and service activities. The Chair will also represent the Department and College with on and off-campus constitutencies and maintain positive public relations with these groups. In addition, the Chair is encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support the university's strategic plan. This plan emphasizes: a) student success; b) faculty and staff success; c) stewarding resources; d) community engagement and partnerships; and, e) enhancing the campus identity.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A doctoral degree in Psychology or related field by time of appointment. Applicants must hold a rank of associate or full professor. Area of specialization in psychology is open.
