Summary

Installs and replaces the City’s water and wastewater system and associated streets, alleys, and pavement as a member of a utility construction crew.

Job Description

  • Under the direction of a Utility Construction Crew Leader with divisional oversight by the Utility Construction Superintendent:
  • Work associated with the replacement of wastewater mains and appurtenances.
  • Work associated with the replacement of water mains and appurtenances.
  • Work associated with the replacement of alleys, streets and other pavement systems in conjunction with utility replacements.
  • Operates and performs preventive maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Responds to citizen complaints and work requests from supervisor(s).
  • Prepares worksites and cleans up sites when jobs are complete.
  • Ensures that the truck and equipment have supplies for the next day’s work.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies related to Utility Construction Division projects. Placed on scheduled/rotated on-call status after training.
  • Maintains records of work performed as required by supervisor(s).

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Knowledge of proper equipment used in the replacement of water, wastewater, and pavement systems. Ability to operate and perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, pumps, jackhammers, and concrete trucks as well as assorted hand tools. Ability to read work orders, plans and specifications, instructional manuals, maps and follow written instructions. Skilled in math in determining amount of materials needed and/or installed.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
High school diploma or equivalent required plus one year of experience in installing and replacing water and wastewater mains and appurtenances and in installation and replacement of streets and alleys. Valid Texas Class B-CDL driver’s license and a good driving record.
