Regional Parks has an exciting opportunity for Lifeguards, who are responsible for protecting the public against accidents in the swim facilities, properly administering first aid/CPR if an accident should take place, and properly maintaining and operating pool, waterslide, and park equipment. Opportunities exist in Cucamonga-Guasti, Glen Helen, and Yucaipa Regional Parks.
Note: These are recurrent, non-regular positions classified as a Public Service Employee (PSE). The successful candidate shall be considered at-will throughout the term of their employment, and will not attain regular status.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Availability: Must be available to work varied schedules, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Positions are part-time (up to 39 hours/week). Assignments and schedules are made based on the needs of the Parks Department. These are seasonal positions working from May through September.
Certifications: All applicants are required to provide Lifeguard, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), First Aid, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) certifications valid through September 2021. All required certifications must be completed prior to the first day of employment.
***Reimbursement for new lifeguard certification or recertification may be approved by the department upon completion of eighty (80) hours of paid work time.
Background: Incumbents must successfully complete a background check, including fingerprinting, prior to appointment.
Applicants must be at least sixteen (16) years of age. Note : An approved work permit will be required prior to the first day of employment if under the age of eighteen (18).
Applicants must possess or be in the process of obtaining an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or equivalent.
Applicants must possess or be in the process of obtaining CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), First Aid, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) certifications.
The ideal candidate will be a strong swimmer with experience working in a swim facility. Candidates who have participated in aquatic sports such as swim or water polo are strongly encouraged to apply. Bilingual abilities are also strongly desired.
