The Position

Portland Parks and Recreation are seeking Recreation Summer Employment for the summer season.

Seasonal Recreation Support Staff positions may organize, plan and lead a variety of youth activities including art, craft, music, performance, science, games, and sports as well as support various community recreation and arts programs that serve and engage the public within the Portland Metro area.

The following are descriptions and salary ranges for the various positions:

Position/s: Camp Counselor I, Camp Counselor II, Summer Playgrounds Counselor I, Summer Playgrounds Counselor II - This position is Union represented.

Camp Counselors organize, plan, and lead a variety of activities including art, crafts, music, performance, science, games, nature and sports in addition to supporting the physical, social and cognitive development of preschool and school-aged participants. Positions will be responsible for maintaining discipline and safety while monitoring youth, consistently modeling appropriate behavior, maintaining accurate program records, and performing maintenance duties as assigned. Counselor hours are weekdays Mornings, afternoon, and early evenings. May work up to 40 hours a week. This position requires you to work outdoors.

Summer Playground Counselors monitor drop-in recreation activities in area of assignment. Creates welcoming atmosphere, engages with park and facility guests, provides excellent 1/4/2021 Job Bulletin 2/8 customer service and is a resource for PP&R information. Monitors use of space and needs of guests is proactive in addressing potential safety concerns, upholds the PP&R code of conduct, communicates with supervisor, Park Rangers and security under established guidelines. Monitors participation and completes needed paperwork and record-keeping. Some positions may require a valid Food Handler's Permit if assigned to a site with a free federal lunch program. Summer Playgrounds hours are mornings, afternoons, and evenings. May work up to 40 hours a week. This position requires you to work outdoors.

WAGE RANGE: Camp Counselor I: $15.00 - $16.25

Camp Counselor II: $16.25 - $17.50

Summer Playgrounds Counselor I: $15.00 - $16.25

Summer Playgrounds Counselor II: $16.25 - $17.50

TRAINING WAGE: Counselor training wage is $15.00 for all counselor positions.

Positions/s: Inclusion Assistant
As part of the Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation program, the Inclusion Assistant provides on-onone, on-site assistance to participants of all ages with physical, developmental and/or emotional disabilities as they integrate into general recreation programs. Duties include adapting activities, following inclusion or behavior plans, maintaining a safe environment and promoting a participant's success in a program.

WAGE RANGE: $14.75- $17.75

TRAINING WAGE: Inclusion Assistant training wage is $13.25

Position/s: Instructor Level I (including Sports and Movement), Instructor Level II (including General Music and Arts)

Instructs and/or monitors classes/activities in recreation & leisure services in area of assignment. May develop lesson plans related to area of assignment based upon overall program objectives & guidelines. Prepares materials for instruction of classes/activities; monitors participation & evaluates classes/activities.

WAGE RANGE: Level I $13.25 - $15.25
Level II $15.25 - $20.25

TRAINING WAGE: Training wage for all is $13.25
