About this position: The Parks Technicians ensures safety, cleanliness, and operability of park grounds and facilities. This includes performing a full range of grounds maintenance, irrigation maintenance, restroom maintenance, facilities/building maintenance on the grounds and a variety of other tasks as assigned. The position ensures overall safety of parks users by inspecting the grounds and equipment.

About the work: Parks Technician should have the skills to communicate effectively in delivery of customer service, as they will be a representative of both Portland Parks & Recreation and the City of Portland. They should have the ability to function as a highly skilled and productive team member. These positions may also be assigned to direct work of crews or work groups, responsible for worker or volunteer safety, review of work, training and guidance in duties. These positions work out-of-doors for extended periods under unfavorable weather conditions. As a Parks Technician you will:
  • Perform grounds maintenance including mowing, raking, edging, lawn trimming, tree trimming, watering, weeding.
  • Utilize small grounds maintenance equipment that could include power mowers, edger, leaf/snow blowers.
  • Clean and maintain restrooms.
  • Clean, paint and perform minor repairs of facilities and equipment.
  • Repair, replace and tune up sprinkler heads, broken irrigation lines, valves, and maintain park irrigation systems including operating and maintaining irrigation clocks for landscaping.
  • Utilize knowledge of fertilizer formulations for proper application.
  • Assist Horticulturist in projects as needed

Specific licensure or certification for these positions will be as follows:
  • A Oregon Public Pesticide Applicator's License with herbicide endorsements within six (6) months of hire.
  • A valid state driver's license and acceptable driving record.
