This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) part-time position in the Water Resources Division of the Public Works Department and to establish a referral pool, which may be used to fill future part-time vacancies.

TYPICAL DUTIES Performs drafting, computing, and checking of field operations as related to the layout and construction of roads; sanitation, drainage and water systems; subdivisions; bridges; traffic signals; street lighting systems; and solid and hazardous waste facilities. Assists in the design of Public Works projects by preparing plans, profiles and cross sections; making quantity estimates, horizontal and vertical alignments and curve computations; and establishing highway and hydraulic gradients. Prepares and reviews maps, right-of-way deeds and legal descriptions; calculates and plots the results of field surveys; and locates, sets or resets survey points. Writes engineering specifications for proposed projects; makes estimates for projects planned or under construction; drafts engineering reports; assists in the application of principles of engineering design and theory to assigned projects. May act as resident engineer for projects under contract such as roads; sanitation, drainage and water systems; buildings and other facilities. May serve as a lead worker or supervise a field crew; may monitor field activities and work production; may instruct subordinate staff to make corrections or modifications to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education :
Completion of 60 semester units at an accredited college with major coursework in engineering science, construction management, or a related field. Experience :
Two years of varied engineering experience at a level comparable to a Senior Engineering Aide in San Joaquin County service. Substitution #1 :
Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Substitution #2 :
Additional education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for year basis. AND License :
Possession of a valid California driver's license.
Basic principles and practices of engineering and materials, including physics, mathematics, chemistry, drafting, real property description, surveying, design, construction, hydraulics and mechanics; basic computer and modern office automation technology, including pertinent software; principles of supervision.
Apply required engineering knowledge in varied work assignments; train and direct others; learn to perform a wide variety of computer applications; operate computers and related software; direct the work of others; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
