Anticipated salary range: $108, 317 to $134,678 (DOE) with outstanding benefits

The City of DeSoto is one of the oldest settlements in North Texas. Located 15 miles south of downtown Dallas. DeSoto has a Home Rule Charter, with a Council-Manager form of government led by a seven-person City Council. Citizens elect all Council Members, who must reside in the district they represent. The mayor represents the city as a whole and is not required to live in a particular district. Council members serve three-year overlapping terms. The City of DeSoto is a full-service municipal organization that relies on more than (428 Full-Time Equivalent employees) to deliver services to internal and external customers through various departments such as Development Services, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Library Municipal Court, Parks and Recreation, Police, Public Utilities, City Administration.

The Director of Public Utilities reports to the Deputy City Manager and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the 29-member department. He or she leads and provides management supervision to two divisions, the Utility Billing Division and the Water and Wastewater Maintenance Division, serving 17,500 accounts throughout the City. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Public Administration, or a closely related field, from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven (7) years of utilities experience (or a closely related field) at the assistant director or director level required. Possession or eligibility to possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Texas or possession of a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class “A” Water Operator Certificate is desirable.
