Full-time ($27.62- $38.88per hour)
Part-time ($26.92- $37.89per hour)

The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement Systems (CalPERS). Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS andthe employee is required to contribute 12.35% of pay toward retirement costs.

The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill future full-time and part-time PoliceCustody Officervacancies as they occur. Appointment to a full-time or part-time position will depend on the department's needs.

SELECTION COMPONENTS:

1.Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the firstreview date of Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Candidates are encouraged to apply immediately as this recruitment may close at any time.

2. VirtualInterview- 100% of Overall Score - Tentatively scheduled for the first week of September 2020 . Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list and may be invited to begin the background process as positions become available.

3.Physical Agility Test (PAT)- Pass/Fail -Date to be determined.

The candidate selected for the position will undergo a thorough background investigation including a polygraph examination. Once a conditional job offer has been made, the candidate will undergo comprehensive medical and psychological examinations, including a urine drug screen, by City Medical Examiners. The Chief of Police will make the final hiring decision.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience requiring constant and responsible public contact, preferably in a law enforcement or correctional facility setting.

Education: High School Diploma or GED certificate.College level courseworkin criminaljusticeor related field is highly desirable.

License/Certificate :Completion of or ability to complete within 6 months of hire, P.C. 832 Powers of Arrest course; Completion of BSCC Standards and Training for Corrections Core course (Jailer Academy) within 12 months of hire; Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license by time of appointment.

Citizenship: All employment offers are contingent upon establishing proof of individual's right to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

Medical: Shall meet and maintain the City of Newport Beach Pre-Employment Medical Standards within the discretion fo the Medical Examiner for the City.

Criminal Background :Record must be free from conviction of any felony or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or domestic violence, and from an excessive number of citations for traffic violations. Background history should indicate responsibility, dependability, honesty, integrity, acceptable communication skills, good judgment and the ability to relate well to others.

Additional Requirement: Prior to employment, the prospective candidate must successfully complete a thorough background review, including being fingerprinted by Newport Beach Police Department. Record must be free from conviction of any felony, or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, and from an excessive number of citations for traffic violations. Background history should indicate responsibility, dependability, honesty, integrity, acceptable communication skills, good judgment and the ability to relate well with others. The resulting report of your conviction history (if any), will be evaluated along with the other information received in connection with your application. Except as otherwise required by law, a criminal conviction will not necessarily disqualify you from the position. The nature, date, surrounding circumstances, and the relevance of the offense to the position applied for may, however, be considered. This position also requires that employees hired after January 1, 1999 shall not smoke or use any tobacco products at any time while on or off duty.

Disaster Service Worker:In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, City of Newport Beach Employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.
