Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Bursar, the Accounting Technician is responsible for the following duties: submit stop payment requests to Accounts Payable for processing and follows up on outcome - either reissue or negotiated checks. Process returned checks, ACH, paper checks and direct deposit rejects in PeopleSoft and CASHNet. Reconcile student refund checks twice a week and more frequently during the start of the term; format Alternative Loan files in Excel to be posted by Cashiering. Process refund requests manually when needed. Handle undeliverable checks to record them and redistribute to students or have them escheated. Request reissue of checks as needed. Send messages to students via MySJSU for ACH and paper check returns. Process State income tax refund payments from the California Franchise Tax Board. Create third party sponsors, link students to the sponsor and invoice sponsors for payment. Responsible for monitoring payment for those sponsors. Serve as back up for other Accounting Technician III position.

The Accounting Technician is responsible for the following duties: Third Party Sponsor process, which includes the set-up of external organizations, linking student accounts to the sponsor and invoicing the sponsor for payment; responsible for monitoring the payment receipt for sponsor accounts; responsible for processing refunds as needed to sponsors; process waivers on student accounts for various programs, i.e., employee, VA and special programs; coordinate with the International Program offices and Registrar regarding the different international programs to manage student accounts.
